Nowadays the MOSILANA trademark with the white lamb situated above the silhouette of Brno symbolizes the company Nová Mosilana, a.s. – one of the prominent producers of fabric for men’s and women’s clothing made of combed woolen yarn, whose owner is the Italian international concern the MARZOTTO GROUP.
The company has picked up the threads of Brno textile producers’ work and their hundreds of years of traditions. The first textile manufactories started in the 18th century and Brno became one of the major centres of woolen fabric production in Austria-Hungary.
Until the end of the WWII the woolen production was realized by small private firms in Brno – i.e. Brünner Kamgarn-Spinnerei, called Kemka, and Essler, Klein Brothers, Weiss, Hecht, Neimark, and Kohn to name but a few.
In accordance with the regulation of Ministry of Industry were these private firms integrated into the national company of Moravian-Silesian wool works after the WWII. The national company was registered in the trading register on 18 October 1946.
The Moravian-Silesian wool works were later divided into five independent subjects by means of administrative act and among these subjects was also the national company Mosilana. |
