Shopping in Prague Czech Fashion

Put on your most comfortable pair of walking shoes and make sure you have a good map of the city. Nothing is more pleasant than setting out shopping on foot – at least in part. If you’re anything like me, then you will take advantage of the ideal opportunity to stroll through some of Prague’s fantastic hidden corners. The designer treasures you discover along the way and take back home with you will always remained linked to the atmosphere of the location.

As you make your purchases, you generally don’t have to worry that you will face problems with oversized luggage at the airport – unless, of course, you plan on taking home a stylish table, chairs, or possibly even a greenhouse as a souvenir from your trip. It’s easy enough to put on some elegant Czech designer fashion, or simply tuck other design objects in your suitcase with your clothes.

Jewellery Needs a Stylish Outfit

It would be a sin to visit Prague and not enrich your wardrobe with some of the most recent items from the collections of leading Czech fashion designers. In her creations, Klára Nademlýnská primarily focuses on luxurious prêt-a-porter fashion. She loves high-quality materials, non-traditional styles, the best possible craftsmanship for her original designs, and simplicity. The neighbouring boutique of Beáta Rajská (they both share the same address of Dlouhá 3 in Prague 1) simply cannot be overlooked. Her work is the embodiment of elegance, and the opportunity to show off a dress by Rajská is worth it.

If you wish to explore the creations of younger talents, visit the Harddecore Gallery (Senovážné náměstí 10, Prague 1). There you’ll find a little bit of everything – clothing, accessories, jewellery, lamps, home decorations, and dishes. The fashion clothing designed by Josefina Bakošová, who uses a minimalist palette of colours, is worthy of special attention.

Paper in the Hands of Designers

Whoever loves to incorporate patterns in their interior decor will surely believe they are in paradise at the Lavmi Boutique (Zlatnická 12, Prague 1). This design studio focuses its creativity on wallpaper, lighting, dishtowels, pillows, clocks, and even stylish notebooks. Even children are not overlooked, and I must admit that the children’s patterns are amongst my personal favourites. Once you have a notebook from Lavmi in your shopping bag, it’s time to head back to the Vltava and submerge yourself in Papelote (Vojtěšská 9, Prague 1). The products made and sold by this original Czech stationery store are made from environmentally friendly materials. Although it has been on the market for a number of years, I still consider its existence to be somewhat of a miracle... and a gift from heaven for those of us who consider it to be an honour to write their thoughts in something beautiful.

Fashion for Men

By now it’s quite possible that you have worn out your walking shoes. This is the perfect time to shop for some new ones. Botas 66 (Křížkovského 18, Prague 3) is a cult brand amongst sneaker lovers. With a history dating back to 1963, Botas shoes are amongst the 100 Czech design icons. These classic shoes are currently offered in a reincarnation of the traditional design from 1966. They are available in women’s and men’s versions - some models are suitable for city wear, others for running. There are Botas shoes made of leather and textile, and there’s even a vegan model.

We have one more tip for men: the Sistersconspiracy brand (Dobrovského 24, Prague 7), which focuses particularly on their gender. Although it now also offers a women’s collection, it started off as a men’s fashion brand and that’s what it built its reputation on. The T-shirts, shorts, shirts, trousers, jackets, and coats on offer come in some very daring versions and some that are not quite as bold.

Furniture Temptations

Since you are already in Prague 7, stop by the DOX Centre of Contemporary Art and its affiliated shop DOX by Qubus (Poupětova 1, Prague 7). Here you’ll find the top creations of modern Czech design and conceptual creativity, primarily jewellery, porcelain, and glass.

On the other hand, the Modernista brand (Vinohradská 50, Prague 2) incorporates the best of Czech design traditions. Initially, Modernista offered restored furniture from the 1920s and 1930s. Later they started manufacturing reproductions of classical Cubist and interwar furniture pieces, decorative items, and jewellery. Modernista’s flagship store is located in the Pavilon in Vinohrady. This industrial building in Renaissance Revival style dates back to the 1930s, when it served as a marketplace. If your search for Czech design ends at the Pavilon, you can relax at one of the cafés that abound in the Vinohrady district.
